Breaking Away – 1979
This is one of the best cycling films ever made.  Starring Dennis Quaid, a small town teen obsessed with the Italian cycling team vies for the affections of a college girl.  The film won the 1979 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

American Flyers – 1985
Sports physician persuades his unstable brother to come with him to train for a bicycle race across the Rocky Mountains.

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure – 1985
Pee-Wee Herman embarks on the big adventure of his life across the US mainland.  The plot revolves around the traumatic theft of Pee-wee’s prized cherry-red vintage Schwinn; complete with handlebar tassels, rearview mirrors, metal panniers and an enormous lion’s face atop the head tube.

The Bicycle Thief – 1948
A man and his son search for a stolen bicycle vital for his job.  Don’t let the subtitles scare you off.

Quicksilver – 1986
Jack Casey (Kevin Bacon) used to be a hot-shot stock market whiz. After a disastrous professional decision, his life in the fast lane is over. He joins a speed delivery firm which relies on bicycles to avoid the San Francisco traffic jams.

A Sunday in Hell – 1976
The film follows the French Paris-Roubaix spring classic, notorious for the hellish paves or cobbled roads of the north “which are no longer used for traffic but only for transporting cattle – and for cycle races”.  It’s a transporting documentary that drops you into the cobblestone dust, soaks you in sweat and details the suffering of the world’s greatest one-day race.

Ride the Divide – 2010
A small group of adventurous mountain bikers attempt to race the longest mountain bike route in the world traversing over 2700 miles along the Rocky Mountains from Banff, Canada to the Mexican border.

Story of a bike, from its creation to its demise.

Beijing Bicycle – 2001
A seventeen-year-old country boy working in Beijing as a courier has his bicycle stolen, and finds it with a schoolboy his age.

ROAM by The Collective – 2006
ROAM is a mountain bike film that depicts the travels of some of the world’s top riders.
